New York premiere of Ariel Dorfman’s WIDOWS
Uniquely dedicated to producing plays about contemporary socio-political issuesReverie Productions presents the New York premiere of Chilean-American author Ariel Dorfman’s WIDOWS, beginning January 10.

“At the riverbank of a war-torn village, a male body washes ashore. Though the face of the man is unrecognizable, all the women claim him as their own. A power-struggle ensues between the local authorities and the women demanding the right to bury their loved ones.” WIDOWS is "a powerful, poetic and striking testament to the disappeared—those who vanish under totalitarian regimes the world over."

Ariel Dorfman has authored numerous works of fiction, plays, poems, essays, and films in both Spanish and English. Time Magazine called him “literary grandmaster” and Newsweek named him “one of the greatest living Latin American novelists.”  He adapted WIDOWS from his 1983 novel of the same name and won the1998 Kennedy Center New American Plays Award for the work. The play is part of Dorfman’s so-called “Resistance Trilogy,” which includes the Olivier Award-winning Death and the Maiden and Reader

WIDOWS runs Thursday, January 10 through Sunday, February 3 at 59E59 Theaters on 59th Street between Madison and Park Avenue.
