Presenter Bios

Brenda Williams-Butts
Director of Community Affairs & Audience Development, WNYC, New York, New York

Brenda Williams-Butts has been director of community affairs and audience development for WNYC since January 2000, and has been with the station since January 1996. One of the main objectives of the Community Affairs and Audience Development Department is to extend the WNYC mission to the larger community. Brenda is responsible for special events, media sponsorships, community building, audience development activities, and the overall outreach strategies for the organization.  

During her tenure, she has spearheaded a number of new community initiatives, including the Cultural Arts Partnership Program, the Salute The Arts Program (*STAR*) and Sound Affects the stations diversity initiative. Brenda also piloted the practice of recruiting celebrities to participate in WNYC advertising campaigns, events, and on-air fund drive endorsements. Some of these celebrities include Sarah Jessica Parker, Yo Yo Ma, Eartha Kitt, Alec Baldwin, Branford Marsalis, Frank McCourt, and Cornel West. 

Brenda is on the steering committee for the National Arts Marketing Project (NAMP), has served on the board of the National Association of Market Developers, and is a member of NABJ and NAMME.
