Indira Etwaroo

Indira Etwaroo, Ph.D. has programmed, curated, written, and presented scholarly and artistic work for venues throughout the United States and abroad. In 2003, she spent a year in Ethiopia working with NGOs to design sociocultural infrastructures for Somali women and children refugees. Indira comes to WNYC from BAM where she was the project director for Shakespeare Teaches, DanceAfrica’s ten-year partnership with Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, Courtroom Drama, humanities series, and student and teacher workshops in connection with mainstage performances. She has been awarded a Fulbright Fellowship, a Graduate Research Award for The National Congress on Research in Dance, and a Community Action Grant from The American Association of University Women. She has also published chapters and articles on diversifying performance art canons and art and pluralism in the United States. She is currently an adjunct faculty member at Temple University.
