Business Volunteer of the Year
Recipient: Theodore C. Rogers
American Industrial Partners
Working with Theatre for a New Audience, Inc.
Year: 1999

A Founding General Partner of American Industrial Partners, Ted Rogers began his relationship with Theatre for a New Audience in 1992 after seeing its production of Othello directed by Julie Taymor. He joined the Board that year and became Chairman the following year. Since that time, the Theatre’s budget and the entire organization has nearly doubled in size. This growth is due largely to Ted’s tireless and hands-on efforts at expanding the Board (co-chairing a special Board Development Task Force), professionalizing the administrative staff, and fund raising. He has hosted many dinners and brunches, thereby broadening the Theatre’s base of support and increasing its visibility in the New York community. He is currently invigorating- the Board with long-range planning that includes a capital campaign to ensure greater longevity for the Theatre.

His personal knowledge and love of the classics dovetails with the Theatre’s commitment to bring the classics to thousands of public school children each year. As another one of the Theatre’s supporters has noted, Ted "understands instinctively the importance of developing audiences for the next generation."

Ted is also a donor to many small and mid-sized theatres in New York, and serves on the Patrons Council of Theatre Communications Group. His passion for the arts is reflected in his service on the Boards of the New York City Ballet, the City Center for Music and Drama, Poets & Writers, Ballet Review Magazine, and the New York Society Library.
