Although Ms. Barr's relationship with A.I.R., its staff, and its member artists began with her work on the project to survey and reorganize the gallery archives, her position as advisor has taken on many facets. Phyllis has gone above and beyond the requirements of the gallery's original agreement with the Business Volunteers for the Arts. Her leadership was invaluable in bringing an organizational structure conducive to research as well as professional archival standards to the 25 years of accumulated material documenting the history of the gallery. Likewise, she was also instrumental in generating new ways to use the archive in support of the gallery's 25th Anniversary celebration this Fall. Phyllis' extensive knowledge of the advertising field offered A.I.R. many important initiatives for marketing strategies and art community outreach opportunities. What was once a one-dimensional plan to create a useful archive for the gallery has taken on several dimensions under Phyllis' guidance. Inspired in many ways by her wisdom and suggestions, the Archive Project has resulted in a traveling exhibition to commemorate the history of the gallery, a program to coordinate other art world and women's movement anniversary celebrations with A.I.R.'s, and a fundraising and marketing strategy to bring the gallery into the public spotlight.
