2001 Project Narratives

A total of $214,000 was awarded in 2001 to the following grantees:

  • Adirondack Ensemble Inc. in Warren County was awarded $20,000 plus technical assistance to expand the Wevertown Chamber Music Series to seven weekends from October to April. With the addition of a newly built 10,000 square foot performance facility- The Tannery Pond Community Center-- the weekends include a Concert Series, seasonal activities at Gore Mountain, walking tours of area towns, district shopping and Upper Hudson River Railroad trips.
  • Brooklyn Academy of Music was awarded $22,000 to implement four-day getaways to Brooklyn focused on the relationship of BAM with local arts centers in Atlanta and Minneapolis. These packages include performances at BAM, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, studio visits, walking tours, shopping and dining. Accommodations will be provided by the New York Marriott-Brooklyn. www.bam.org
  • Buffalo/ Olmsted Parks Conservancy in Erie County was awarded $25,000 to brand the Olmsted Crescent area. Named for the shape encompassing ten of Buffalo’s most important cultural attractions, the grant will go toward an extensive and aggressive marketing plan, overnight packages and a shuttle bus to service the Crescent.
  • Carousel Society of the Niagara Frontier in Niagara County was awarded $20,000 plus technical assistance to fund a summer long entertainment series within the newly renovated Tonawanda’s Gateway Harbor Park. The series includes historical, visual and performing events.
  • Catskill Mountain Crafts Collective in Delaware County was awarded $25,000 to take advantage of the peak leaf-peeping season by offering a Crafts Trail throughout five counties. The plan also looks to extend the season well into October.
  • Council on the Arts & Humanities of Staten Island was awarded $25,000 to expand the operation of the VISIT center near the Staten Island Ferry dock, create a tour route brochure, and to fund a shuttle service and bus tour around the sights in Staten Island. www.statenislandarts.org
  • Cultural Resources Council of Syracuse and Onondaga County was awarded $10,000 to develop a publication that highlights the cultural heritage offerings in the region.
  • The Isamu Noguchi Foundation, Inc. in Queens was awarded $25,000 to implement an Art Loop shuttle service from MOMA in New York City during its renovations to the Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum and Socrates Sculpture Park, as well to other points of interest in Western Queens. www.noguchi.org
  • The Long Island Museum of American Art, History and Carriages in Suffolk County was awarded $10,500 to promote the Long Island Heritage Trail and implement Living History Weekend Events in the Spring season.
  • Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center in Suffolk County was awarded $6,500 to package a cultural loop along Long Island’s South Fork during the Spring and Fall off-peak seasons.
  • The Westchester Arts Council in Westchester county was awarded $25,000 to create and distribute Westchester for the Fun of It advertising supplement that features overnight packages, and day tours of the area’s cultural sights and tourist attractions.
